This is a compilation of beautiful stripped down deep house
from London's Music For Freaks label featuring tracks from
Detox Twins, Rob Mello, DJ Q, Freaks, and long time east coast
veteran Doc Martin under the name DMR. The sound is based
around simple but funky house rhythms with occasional vocal
snippets and even some digital noise worked into "Angie's
Fucked" by another west coast producer, C++. A lot of
the bass lines are programmed with the wonderfully laid back,
yet thumping subs typical to deep house material with the
exception of DJ Q who incorporates live acoustic bass and
a Fender Rhodes into his track "Music For Freaks."
Some Freaky Stuff is comprised of both new and previously
released tracks from the label and is a great chance to check
out a CD version of some of their tunes. All of the material
is slick, straight up deep house but Music For Freaks has
a very clean styilized sound that works its way through a
lot of the tracks. What is refreshing about the Music For
Freaks label is the way their artists try to work more of
the abstract sounds into the material with more typical instruments
like horn lines and Latin percussion. -Justin Hardison
