New York based DJ Dara is a figurehead for the American drum
'n' bass scene. He's produced original tracks and remixes,
hosted radio shows, and is part owner of the Breakbeat Science
store in Manhattan. While Dara may be a leader in the U.S,
Future Perfect shows he must still look to the U.K. for the
top-notch breaks that make up his style and has no time to
wait for such heavy-hitters to appear stateside.
In the same style as Moby's "Go", Future Perfect
opens with the melody from the Twin Peaks theme used in Teebee's
"Blue Rose". From the start, Dara drops a furious
and intense set with the aid of larger than life tunes such
as Ink & Dylan's sample-heavy "Need You" and
the hard snares of "Specialist" by Future Cut. He
has successfully aimed for a set that intertwines the multi-dimensional
sounds of the drum 'n' bass genre. (A note to the other DJ's
that are sub-genre picky) the apocalyptic "Bleach"
by Universal Project is a wicked tune however, 50 minutes
worth of this dooming tech-step style will throw your crowd
into meltdown mode. If you'd like to avoid a nuclear winter,
emulate Dara and create an exploration of your genre. You
can keep your set interesting by fusing the storming darkness
of Decoder with the funky classic sounds of Skeptic or the
more vocal tracks by artists such as Kosheen. -Justin Hardison
