So the compilation title is a blatant marketing ploy and
not very creative but still an excellent way to promote the
Swiss label and it's new website. All of the tracks on this
compilation have been huge on the downtempo charts and acclaimed
by Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Rainer
Trüby and more. You can't really argue with those critics,
can you? Some of the downtempo artists have been using the
same elements in their tracks but Straight Ahead artists like
Freeform Arkestra, Hidden Agenda, and Tweak tie in elements
of hip-hop, house and jazz but drive it into new territory.
The most notable is the intricate jazz structure and time
signatures of the percussion and breaks. Forget the watered
down lounge, Straight Ahead are creating an urban soundtrack
that will challenge your pre-conceived notion of where this
