Nathan Michel

I’ll always remember the early days of video games and the cheesy 8 bit music loops. If only such lo-fi tunes could of been produced by Nathan Michel, I most likely wouldn’t of turned down the volume every time I started up Atari pong. I didn’t get much of a background on Michel what I did gather is that he is influenced by Steely Dan, Nobukazu Takemura, and Bach for starters and he doesn’t understand even the basic concepts of the computer software he uses. While this seems like a scary combo, what we get is lo-fi-skittish-video game-pop melodies and an album that quickly grows with each listen. Nathan Michel creates tracks that have the innocence of a tech crazed Japanese girl and the sneaky attitude of Donkey Kong and once you run it through a set of headphones, it’s a new experience as each sound offers a new perspective. I can’t wait to see what Nathan Michel does when he reads his software manuals. Then again, we wouldn’t want to spoil anything. - JH
