Here we have volume two of the Solid Steel series based on the mix style of Coldcut's massive radio show for a long time now. The first featured DJ Food and a battering ram of hip-hop, reggae, drum & bass, classic soul. you name it. Needless to say, Hexstatic is taking the torch and running fast with the same mish-mash style that he put together on CD players. Before the vinyl purists get your fucking panties twisted, the new pioneer decks do just as good as a 1200 and it looks like laptops and software like Traktor could be in the running as well with the exception of a little scratching. As evident on this compilation, digital mixing allows for some amazing edits and new versions so let's have a little fun shall we? Just like the Solid Steel show, Hexstatic and the whole Ninjaland loves those spoken word samples between tracks and you'll get plenty of demonstrations, sex sounds, classic and tired reggae chants on this one. They use it all and it's the best mix you'll get without picking out the tracks and producing the damn thing yourself but I bet you can smack the tunes together as good as Rob Hexstatic! The commercial release will feature a new track and video so save your nickels. - FEDS
