Yabby You
Dub It To The Top 1976-1979
Blood & Fire
I don't think any dub or reggae fan can give enough
thanks to Blood & Fire for the amazing job they
do at offering amazing re-issues and uncovering those
hidden gems when they go digging for original session
reels and accurate history to accompany the music. This
release marks a shift in the Vivian 'Yabby You' Johnson's
career around the late 70's towards more dub 'versions'
and promoting the talent of other artists. This collection
features the full-length LP Yabby You Meets Michael
Prophet: Vocal & Dub along with seven more tracks
that were featured on 45's around the same time and
is nothing but incredible. Yabby's vocals and production
drop in and out of the classic King Tubby sound with
massive horns and heavy rhythms washed over with his
dirty reverb and delay. Like all Blood & Fire releases
(and album's from the era) some of the versions are
lined up one after the other so the first three tracks
can wear you down a bit unless your like the Blood &
Fire crew and like to study the difference between each.
The rest of the disc is clear sailing and the in-depth
inlay notes detail the history of each track and a quick
study will find other greats featured on the album like
Prince Jammy who mixed several of the original versions.
Another stellar re-issue. - JH
