Now I’m not the biggest fan of the Blectum From Blechdom material, but Blevin Blectum’s solo album is phenomonal and a hell of a flipped-out-sci-fi good time . The disc is meant as the soundtrack to the film “Talon Slalom” and in fact the disc includes a quicktime excerpt from the film. On the music side, Blevin decided that she would take a different term from her usual work and take a more sampled/collage approach that takes sequences and fragments from an arsenal of re-worked sound designs and constructs tracks that peak your interest more with each listen. The 19 tracks are skillfully produced and as leftfield and monster movie as it sounds, it never gets on your nerves. She breaks up rhythms and throws in odd voices the drift in the background while at the same time making the entire track sound as if you’re listening to it inside out. What I love about Blevin Blectum and her cohorts is that they are making experimental music and sound collages fun again. They create material that makes your mind wander to the crazy perverted places, even if you haven’t seen ‘Talom Slalom’ which reminds me, I really must.
