After thirteen years of unleashing some of the most inspirational mixes via their Solid Steel radio show, the Ninja Tune crew are now releasing a series of compilations allowing you to get the lowdown on the show if it hasn’t already graced your ears. The first of the series showcases DJ Food and DK in a tag-team set that tears its way through a vast amount of record crates with a additional help of their laptops and effects. Their set works up a seamless set of multi-genre tracks that take their shape with tunes like hip-hop reworks of Jeru the Damaja into sedative jazz electronic breaks of label-mates Neotropic and Four Tet. Also check out mind crushing moments as the crew drops The English Beat’s “Mirror In The Bathroom” over jungle breaks by Mask and blends Mr.Scruff with DJ Vadim & Motion Man’s “The Terrorist.” They leave few styles untouched. The drop tracks like David McCallum’s “House Of Mirrors” which we’re sure you’ll find a similarity to DJ Shadow’s “Dark Days” as well as songs by Herbie Hancock, Art of Noise, and Boards of Canada with the trademark samples and intermissions of the Solid Steel show.
