I'd never heard of a band called The Shore. You probably still
haven't heard of them. But sometimes it's those little things you've never
heard of that come out to get you when you least expect it. I've been
got.
This four song e.p. from The Shore is amazing from front to back, song
to song, moment to moment, from first listen to last listen
I've
not been able to get it out of my cd player; and that doesn't happen all
that often. Laced with original and creative work, these four songs carry
shades of such varied acts as The Verve, Fleetwood Mac,
Din Pedals, Adorable, and even a bit of Oasis at
times. Heartfelt songwriting is at the heart of these songs, creating
a strong emotional current to the entire listening experience. But don't
sell The Shore short, the songs carry the same weight as the best post-modern
rock gems past and present. Dense guitars and pounding rhythms marry up
seamlessly with grand orchestrations and sitar melodies. Not once in the
many times I have listened to this e.p. have I become bored with a song,
but instead continue to pick out fresh bits of melody and beauty each
time.
The Shore's eponymous full-length album is slated for release on February
24, 2004. I can barely contain my excitement for what may well be one
of the best albums of the decade thus far. A truly original work of musical
art, while seeming like the oldest of friends, "The Shore" is
both fresh and familiar all at once.
