They've wooed us with Ben Harper, wowed us with Janet
Jackson and even shocked us with Korn... Virgin Records
is one of the largest record labels today, and they've given us
countless numbers of huge acts. Over It is no exception.
Over It is one of those bands that is going to set the bar a
little higher for everyone else. Starting off the journey with
a good pop-rock song: "Think Against The Grain." There's
something about a few of the guitar riffs that scream Hawthorne
Heights - very distinct and almost dark. The next step (or
song) "Gunslinger (Running Out Of Time)" is a slightly
more poppy song. In this setting, Peter (lead vocals) actually
comes out sounding like a younger George Michael - rather
humorous. They have a song primed and ready for the radio: "Siren
On The 101", enough said. My two favorite songs on the album
are right in the middle: "Your Song" and "The Energy."
I think it's the lyrics "Finally found your wings/but you
gave it all to watch over me", paired with powerful drums
and mesmerizing guitar that hooks me in to "Your Song."
With "The Energy"... well, it's just that, the energy.
These guys obviously know what they're doing and that's nicely
displayed in this song. The lyrics have a purpose and the beat
keeps your body moving through the entire 3 min and 56 seconds.
The journey ends with "Like Satellites." This song features
an acoustic guitar which sets the tone a bit happier and peppier,
a good way to end it.
No exception, this is another great album put out by Virgin
Records. The rest of it deserves a listen and a good jam session.
