From Toronto, Canada, The Birthday Massacre is a thick
puree of goth and 1980's synth-pop with a sprinkling of metal.
They've been recording and touring since 1999 and have garnered
a loyal fan base, performing around the U.S., Canada, Mexico,
Australia, the U.K. and Europe. This is their fourth release on
Metropolis Records. Sweet and sinister, eerie and ethereal, it's
an interesting mix. There's swirling synths, faux strings, driving
percussion, some industrial electronica and Chibi's pop
vocals floating on top would be breezy and light were it not for
her dark and menacing lyrics.
Those who enjoy thickly layered arrangements and have a fond
nostalgia for the 1980s and bands like Gary Numan and Berlin,
but like music with an edgy, macabre hue, should give The Birthday
Massacre a listen.
