Let me start with the positives about Ingram Hill's latest,
Look Your Best. The group definitely has their act together.
They have a professional, clean sound. Their upbeat, catchy pop
rock ballads are extremely radio-friendly. I would liken them
to bands such as Train, BBMak, or The Goo Goo
Dolls.
The strange thing about Ingram Hill is that they have the kind
of sound that could easily be successful, but it's almost so mainstream
already that it's hard to find a hook that would make people pay
attention. Some of the lyrics border on trite, for instance, in
"Burn Out Your Flame", they sing "So when failure
looks you in the eye / And there's nowhere left to run and hide
/ And all you've got is what's inside..." Also, a few songs
like "Lady Grey" are so clean they sound like [if the
lyrics were changed slightly], they could be almost Christian
rock worship songs.
Basically, though Ingram Hill isn't my cup of tea, they are certainly
good at what they do. Nothing really stands out as memorable which
could be a potential problem in such a saturated music industry
as ours. My guess is that if Ingram Hill can work at getting a
young, loyal female fan base, I am sure they could be successful.
