Lakes
Photographs

Vocalist/guitarist Seth Roberts, previously of Watashi Wi, has formed a new band called Lakes. The band is comprised of Roberts and Danny Igarta on bass and Jason Massey on guitar and backup vocals. Their debut album Photographs, produced by Roberts and Massey, is an emotionally uplifting opus of melodically strung soft rock numbers with reflections about life, channeling a mild Carbon Leaf manner and transporting the listener into a refreshing state of being with a Goo Goo Dolls powered airlift. The songs are melodically carved and tunefully indexed.

The opening track "Indian Lover" swills a myriad of melodic soft rock textures toiled in a Jeremy Camp cuneiform. The optimistic scope of the tunage is resilient, culminating into a melodically accoutered series of mid-tempo odes to love like "Love Or Grain" and the title track. The elevating lilt of the guitar licks and soft rock trams cradle a Christian rock hemisphere reflective of Edwin McCain and Australia's Alabaster Box. The title track takes a personal perspective about a couple so in love that they grow old together, still in love 'til the end. The waves of melodic dales and euphoric summits have a rolling refinement like the Mike Doughty, while the melodic progressions on "Latersss" have a tilt towards The Calling's optimism and The Pat McGee Band's driving passion. The numbers awaken a sense of hope and can move even the most obstinate listener. The final draw "White Flag" displays brightly elated guitar lines encasing a homey, countrified style reminiscent of Pete Yorn and Rhett Miller. It's a song for people in Roberts' position - being in love and focused on always staying there.

The Lakes debut release Photographs is an ode to being in love and staying on that path. The music is deliriously melodic and boundlessly optimistic. The songs arouse emotions to follow a path of harmony, but can these songs relate to other peoples real lives? This is an album that the world is either ready for or totally not. There is no middle ground for this one, but there is also no doubt that Lakes are enormously endowed tunesmiths and one that songwriters and music fans will find laudable.
