When I first put this CD in and scanned through the songs, I
almost thought it was a joke. With songs titles like: "In
The Name Of All That's Evil On The Earth" and "Music
Makes Me Want To Die" and lyrics like: "All the people
on the street, I hate you all/Stick a needle in our eye, poke
out our guts", you just can take it seriously. But, being
a good reviewer you have to give all bands a second chance, so
I did.
It all starts out with "Crying Shame" a slower song,
which is an unusual way for most albums to start. But, listening
to the lyrics, you are told an interesting story, possibly the
story of Mike TV singer/guitarist/writer. It could be thought
of opening the door for the rest of the album or the rest of Mike's
story. The second song, "Get Through The Day" is a typical
choice for most albums, a bit more pop-punk and upbeat. It's one
of those songs that has you singing along to the chorus by the
time it's through. In addition to the nice mix of beats and harmonies,
there are some entertaining and relentlessly true lyrics. A claim
to fame that the band has is being on the soundtrack for the hit
show Grey's Anatomy. Featured with bands like: The Postal
Service and Rilo Kiley helped them to broaden their
audience past their local following out in Los Angeles. Ok, now
this is not one of those radio-friendly CDs for the family. But,
it will have your feet tapping and singing lyrics like: "Another
ordinary day/with ordinary boys f-ing ordinary girls/in an ordinary
time". This is one of the most entertaining albums I've heard
yet.
