I supposed I started off listening to this CD with the intent of
liking what I heard... After reading that So They Say is a
product of the Midwest, like me, I automatically wanted to give them
a good review. Upon finishing my run through of the album, I found
no problem giving them that good review.
Officially from St. Louis, the band consisting of David, Joseph,
Justin, Nick and Joe, first showed up in 2005.
Within a year, the diligent staff at Fearless Records managed to squeeze
a full-length, 11 song album out of them. Their first album earned
them a place on the stage of the Midwest part of the Warped Tour in
2005. Sharing the Tour with artists like Thrice and The
Starting Line allowed for the band to really grab an audience.
Now, with the release of Antidote For Irony that audience gets
a full taste of what this band can do. Alternative and Punk is what
my iTunes categorized them as and I believe that fits. Their music
would go nicely with bands like: Anberlin, Taking Back Sunday,
or Rufio; basically described as a harder rock with powerful
themes. In the song "Good-Bye", there are some almost poetic
lyrics: "applause for you always pointing out everyone's flaws/all
alone I hope you change someday for your own good". Will you
be uplifted after listening to their album? Probably not, but I have
no doubt that they will have you rocking out by the end.
