The John Butler Trio has been Australia's best kept secret
- releasing three albums abroad, including Sunrise Over Sea
- and can now take the title of their [Australia's] best export.
After the domestic 2004 EP, What You Want, the band debuts
in America with a multi-faceted 14 track set which touches on
blues, folk, rock, and even flirts with hip hop, in a pristine
acoustic format with intermediate bursts of electricity. John
Butler is an accomplished slide player, but is an equally
talented finger pickin' guitarist. Butler's vocals are road tested
and whiskey soaked as he sings of a life beyond his years. With
Rory Quirk on bass and Jason McGann on drums, the
band is solid as they deliver a live in the studio performance
with very few overdubs. Sunrise Over Sea is a truly honest
recording and just as profound.
