Stars
Set Yourself On Fire
Arts & Crafts Records

Originally from New York, Stars relocated and took up residence in Montreal, but took an eclectic mix of influences discovered in their home state. Drawing inspiration from Sgt. Pepper's-era Beatles, the band resurrected Chamber Rock with an un-compromised emphasis on melody and production. Set Yourself On Fire is the third release from the Canada based group and rivals their previous two. Chock full of ornate and multi-faceted songs, Stars continue with a mix of superimposed orchestral movements alongside a mix of new wave, dance and dream pop conscientious timbres. Vocal exchanges between Tourquil Campbell and Amy Millan are authentic and haunting as the duo sing about love and heartbreak.

Unusual? Perhaps. Experimental? A little bit. Worth a listen? Definitely!

-Tony Engelhart
