Jonti
Sine And Moon
Stone's Throw Records
www.stonesthrow.com/jonti

Jonti, master of the synthesizers, MPC drum machine and all out electronica, has such an amazingly quirky style that you can't help but be enthralled by his tantric beats and melodies. He is truly unlike anything I have heard before. Even Gotye himself has given him the official nod for the track "Koi Moon's Daughter Pt II", to let the critics know he's legit. The only other artist I've heard myself that is slightly similar, beat-wise, is Odd Future's crew... and that is pushing it. I think they were aware of the likeness as well since Hodgy Beats of Odd Future has already collaborated with him, as has Mark Ronson.

The success of his debut album Twirlgig has launched him into a brand new realm of media attention, although it's safe to say he hasn't let his rise of notoriety diminish his originality. If anything, it seems to be even more grounded and intact. Simply trying to describe Jonti's music is a near impossible task. It's more of an ethereal feeling like you would get from a psychedelic LSD trip, loopy dream, or painting with watercolors. Both "Sugar High" and "Flesh Of The Morning" are the type of tracks that put you in a peaceful mind state and give the experience that your life is set to a movie. Unfortunately there is no full on musical instruments to rant about because in some interviews Jonti has done, he has explained how he's used anything from a $3.00 piece of junk that makes eerie noises to his high priced digital audio workstation samples. Safe to say that no matter what the record is Jonti is sure to deliver his stacking technique, which he exclaims he is a mega fan of. Sometimes using as little as 3 to 4 different sounds in whole and just melodically stacking them to build an easy listening vibe that simply thrills listeners. His track "Red and Green" doesn't have as strict a layering, but it is quite simplistic. It features another Stone's Throw Records artist, Jonwayne, who raps a tale with ominous supporting vocals from Jonti.

I'm surely no deity, but I foresee a pretty successful future for this cat if he continues down this path of greatness. The Sine And Moon album is pure gold and can put anyone in a trance and lull you into daydream state about your life.
