Preteen Zenith's music culls ambient pop with psychedelic
curls creating a synthesis of The Polyphonic Spree with vintage
Pink Floyd. The band's new CD, Rubble Guts & BB Eye
from Good Records, is mildly tempered rock with trills of synths and
strings.
Airy and ephemeral, "Breathe" is uplifting with sprigs
of twinkling strings twined in synth flourishes exuding an ambient
texture. The catchy rhythm of "Relief" is bonded in coiling
synths as the verses prophesize, "It's all so clear and comforting
/ This story we told is the story of need
Cause I believe /
And here you are shining on me
It's a matter of life needing
life." The sonic psychedelics have a Pink Floyd-ish tooling which
gives the track a prog rock sheen. The steady beats of "Danger
Control" are cloaked in lukewarm synths as "Life" is
groomed in eruptions of jamboree-tinged whistles and glockenspiel
chimes. The sonic pop tresses of "Peddling" mold willowy
atmospherics belted in softly twirling strings while the stomping
drum strikes of "Maker" are trellised in sonic aerials.
"Meat" has a Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
stylizing in a décor of serried cymbals and echoey vocals transitioning
into the marching band rhythm of "Overcome" and the automatronic
beeps and blitzes dotting "Late."
Preteen Zenith shows elements of their musical influences integrated
and tailored to the band's liking. Rubble Guts & BB Bye
is ambient pop in a similar vane to The Polyphonic Spree. It's easy
listening music by nature with ethereal soundscapes and electronic
based fringes.
