The blurb says it all, really, "Very Goth oriented. Now
you can see the Cure, Legendary Pink Dots influences
a lot more clearly." Well hot damn, you can!
The 15 year old uber-goth in me that's still in love with Robert
Smith is in absolute AWE of Velvet Acid Christ's new
CD, Between the Eyes, Vol #2. Brian Erickson has
captured some of the heavy, ethereal sounds in the more less-than-pop-y
Cure CDs and wound them around new, innovative beats and lyrics,
and I THANK HIM for that. It's as if I discovered Pornography
by The Cure all over again
I apologize for being so uninformed,
I don't know enough about the Legendary Pink Dots to see the obvious
connection. However, if it's anything like VAC, I'm going to go
buy everything.
Rivet-heads don't fret, you won't have to expect to hear an
hour and a half of droning on and on, but just don't expect
to be breaking a sweat on every track. VAC has of course put
in a very good mix of Goth and EBM/Industrial into this work,
even if it does rely on the slower, heavier tunes.
If you're a fan of the more danceable tracks from VAC, such
as "Collapse" or "Dial 8," never fear, you
won't be left out of the cold. Starting early in the CD, track
# 6, "Mental Depression," will keep you awake and
moving.
The 10 years + Brian Erickson has been working on the VAC project
has been a wonderfully artistic journey that I'm proud to have
been able to keep an eye on, (from afar, not stalker-y like,
you non-believers!) and I hope that he continues it until I'm
90 years old and he can't remember what the hell he's doing
anymore.
Take a chance and check it out, I think you won't be disappointed.
If you are, then
uh
get over it
