Indie Rock can be defined as either a genre of music or the way in
which a certain type of music is produced. Edison Glass is
one of the first bands that I've heard in a long time that I think
really fits into the genre of Indie Rock.
This is their first album out in stores and already it's meeting
an agreeing audience. There's something about their sound that just
mesmerizes you. If you took their album name A Burn Or A Shiver
literally, then you would have a good idea of the experience you get
when you listen. Some of their songs like "Today Has Wings",
"Angelic In Heart", and "My Fair One" give you
a Burn, an energy that permeates through the speakers and gets your
feet tapping. Where as the other part of their songs like "Starlight",
"This House" and "You Mean The World To Me" send
a Shiver through your spine, with the intensity and emotion of the
lyrics. I can see Edison Glass going on tour with The Fray
and having all of the fans equally impressed by both the opening band
and the main act. I always enjoy an album that seems to have a story
behind it. With 13 chapters this CD is a captivating tale of honesty,
dreams, and memories.
So, do yourself a favor, go out and pick up A Burn Or A Shiver
and give yourself about an hour of free time. Then just sit and listen.
You'll be taken away with this story of four guys from Long Island
and their 54 minutes of Indie Rock.
