I was so anxious to hear this band because
of the images stirred in my mind at the Artful Dodger reference.
But I was sorely disappointed upon my listen. This song may
move your body... But that would be all that would be moving.
My mind is in no way affected. If this is what Artful Dodger
plans to release, then I am definitely planning on not paying
attention. This is house music for those without house sensibility,
or those who prefer their drum and bass with no power.
The radio edit of "Re-Rewind" is terribly
monotonous, even at 4 minutes 1 second. I can't imagine what
more of this song would be like... But I got to find out on
the next remix. The biggest problem here is that the vocals
are reminiscent of N'Sync or some other gutless boy band,
and they are sampled and repeated over the backing loop. There
are merely 3 or so lines of lyric, none of them having any
merit on their own, or tied with the others. Neither the music,
nor the lyrics of this song are exciting in any way, shape,
or form. The single includes a vocal remix that I was still
looking forward to after the first remix, but I guess it is
hard to do a nice vocal remix when one merely has a single
vocal sample playing over and over again.
Repetitive and banal would be my short
sentiment on this single... I do hope the album boasts something
a little more "artful."
