Getting ready to wind up your summer fun with a swinging good time,
perhaps a knock 'em down, drag 'em out cocktail party? Well pony up
to the martini bar, ladies and gentlemen, slick back your 'dos, and
crank the Richard Cheese records on the hi-fi. Lounging up
some of your favorite (or at least most familiar) alternative rock
tracks is exactly what Richard Cheese is all about. But unlike so
many of the bands trying to perpetrate this type of cool madness,
Richard Cheese is GOOD
really, really good.
Starting things off with 2 Live Crew's "Me So Horny"
will put you right into the fun mood. Hearing smooth swing music playing
background to lines like "Your dad will be disgusted when he
sees your pussy busted" gets me rolling in laughter, and it doesn't
stop there. Guns 'N' Roses' "Welcome To The Jungle"
is presented in a fast ballroom samba, bringing just the exact amount
of schmaltz to the classic rock and roll tune. Jane's Addiction's
"Been Caught Stealing" is almost note for note, with just
a bit more swing - incredible- and you'll hear the lyrics that you
never quite pulled out before. The background dog barks, Phil Spector
references and accompanying story make for a humorous time. The conga-infused
take on U2's classic "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is catchy,
especially when the words "Domingo, sangre Domingo" are
uttered. The Killers' "Somebody Told Me" is presented
here as a late night, heavily drunken ballad
hilarious.
So, grab your swinging chicks, your dolls, your goodfellas, a few
bottles of your favorite liquor, and wind up the party with the
cool and jazzy sounds of Dick Cheese. Don't tell your mom, though.
She wouldn't understand.
