Vibrant and disconcerting, Some Girls aims for the jugular
with speed punk progressive and hits the mark. Weighing in at a mere
6 minutes and 19 seconds this album is a powerhouse of milieu and
emphasis that could be lost in the blink of an eye. Literally.
Sounding like Blood Brothers on crack (yeah, good luck trying
that one), the drums pound the material into oblivion as the guitars
vie for footholds to come in for the kill. The vocals are aptly abrasive
with a weirdly shifting resonance as they double up at points and
use an off-kilter chorus effect that adds to the hazy nature of the
record. The break out points make the album - like the additional
female vocals, reminiscent of Daisy Chainsaw, in "The
DNA Will Have It's Say", and the subdued section in "Don't
Hate Me Just 'Cause I Hate You".
This music is most definitely not for the feint of heart, but well
worth it if you can stomach the genre.
