Did these guys follow me to California last summer? I mean seriously,
because every time I stick in Creeps And Lovers I'm reminded
of the summer I spent in California working at a couple record labels.
Record labels like Nitro Records and Revelation Records, whose roster
includes artists like: Shai Hulud, Bullet Train To Vegas
and Judge.
Ok, yeah, I know Freshkills is actually from New York, but
they still seem to be a perfect fit for the scene in Southern California.
This new post-hardcore band has everything you would want: aggressive
beats, dark lyrics and a mixture of goth influenced punk (yes, it's
possible). Say we throw together a little family reunion in good old
SoCal and decide to put on a post-hardcore showcase. From the Revelation
side of the family would come - Call Me Lightning, and The
Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower, and from the Nitro side would
be The Letters Organize. It would probably be a good idea to
throw in the third cousin Franz Ferdinand from Epic, to bring
in the young kids. Now, you've got Rock, Indie, Punk, Garage, Goth,
and Hardcore all coming together in one place/album and it's quite
a show.
There's not a second on this album where you can sit down and relax,
it just keeps pulsating at you until the very end. Yes it's grim
and dark as it should be, yet at the same time has a playful and
punk tone to their sound. How they do it, I'm not sure. But this
is not an album you can listen to at your parent's house. So hook
up the amps and be sure the neighbors aren't home, so you can really
blast this stuff.
