Taking the name of a band literally is probably not what most
bands are expecting. With names out there like: The Bank Robbers,
Funeral For A Friend, and even the crazy punk band The
Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower, most listeners would simply
chalk up a name to "something they came up with".
However, in the case of The City Drive, I decided to take
their name for its actual translation. I popped in their debut
release Always Moving Never Stopping and took a drive around
the city. It was a beautiful sunny day and this was the perfect
soundtrack. So what can be said about this new band just released
off of one of the great indie labels, We The People Records? Well,
from the first second of their first song "Defeated"
I feel like I'm hearing Andrew McMahon of Jack's Mannequin.
Or perhaps it's just the powerful piano presence that you get
right away. Maybe Jack's Mannequin was one of their influences,
or possibly it was some of The Starting Line with a little
bit of New Found Glory. No matter where they draw their
influence, these guys have got something going for them. Not only
can you check out their debut release, but you can hear some of
their songs featured in a couple major motion pictures: Yours,
Mine & Ours and American Pie: Band Camp.
They went to "Band Camp" and they also performed
at this year's "Rock and Roll Camp" a.k.a. Warped
Tour for the first time. And I have no doubt that they will
be invited to next year's tour. This pop-punk band is going
to make you glad you have a car and an awesome stereo. Because
with their infectious melodies, memorable hooks, and relatable
lyrics The City Drive is a band you'll want to know. Trust me.
