Self-effacing humor is rare in cock-rock, but fat balding guys in leather had better be joking. "Hell Toupee" turns a Tales From The Crypt pun into Judas Priest advertising Rogaine, while "Everbody Loves A Chubby Dude" is rife with self-referencing hope. As a public service, the Norwegians instruct female listeners, "Stroke the shaft/ make it last/ not too fast/ the heads off limits." Ladies, that's sound advice there. More locker-room giggles follow with gems like,"I wanna come to the party at your house/ I wanna come/ But I can't get off" and the self-explanatory "Hot And Filthy."

The greatest chance for quotable conversation pepper-uppers is the philosophical "What Is Rock," which attempts to define and justify how cool Turbonegro really is. "What is rock? No I'm not talking about Canadian producer and 5th Metallica Bob Rock you fool/What is rock?/Historians keep nagging about Funhouse but me/ I think Kill City is where its at." While we're posturing, the bravado of "Boys From Nowhere" has surprisingly little to do with the song by fellow Scandalnavians The Maggots.

The over-the-top imagery, the sonic impact and the stellar musicianship are oft compared to Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and the like. But let's not forget that at the core, this is a joke band. A vulgar, juvenile, hilarious joke band that is as likely to poke fun of themselves as boast their sexual prowess. Torbonegro sends up the genres of metal, glam and prog rock with a talent as great as Alberto y Lost Trio Paranoias.
