So... I am handed three albums to do a review on with a note
that says: "At least one of these is a priority (review)",
little did I know what I was going to see. I'm sorry but this
is the best thing since sliced bread, people. Yeah I know that
dual CD/DVDs have slowly but surely been getting big in the market,
but what a concept to have it associated with live shows... and
Warped no less! Holy Shit People, I hope they set the standard
because this is just freakin' awesome.
The album just takes on a different scope. With all of the DVD
extras I now know more about these bands than I probably would
have cared, but more is always better. All the CDs have high quality
live performances which are always hard to find, with some studio
tracks thrown in, to boot. It makes my head spin there is so much
on just one disc. Not to mention how much this benefits the bands
exposure as well, this really puts a face to these bands as they
try to make something of themselves. Just all around good, good,
good.
So of the three albums I received I will try and give just a
cursory "best of" for each:
Side Sixty Seven - This band just rocks out and benefits
from the album exposure as the live tracks are almost better than
their studio counterparts, showing the bands solid fervor live.
The DVD steps it up with interviews and performances that really
let you get to know the band.
Pulley - This band flows as much as their "The Ocean
Song" does, defying stereotypical conventions and letting
their music and presence define them. And this album only helps
by showing them owning the stage and letting us peek behind the
stage door to get to know them.
Lennon - Of the three I was most disappointed that this
one didn't have more live tracks on the CD side. The studio ones
were okay, but the live ones just blow them out of the water.
As a songwriter the main gal is walking a fine line, which I hope
she gets off of and goes into the harder territory.
What will they think of next? Who knows, but man it's going
to be hard to top this one.
